Problems solved by technology

When using a badminton racquet made in a deflected condition, stress concentration occurs at the vertical shaft upper end portion of the T-joint that slightly slides out of the upper end of the shaft, which sometimes causes fractures at that portion of the T-joint
[0006] Moreover, when the T-joint is coated with a high-viscosity adhesive such as epoxy for insertion into the open upper end of the shaft, it is almost impossible to insert the vertical rod of the T-joint precisely concentrically with respect to the opening of the rod, which Usually done eccentrically, therefore, the adhesive coated on the outer surface of the T-joint is scraped off by the end of the rod on the eccentric side, which leads to a reduction in the strength of the bond, which in turn causes a reduction in the torsional strength of the rod relative to the frame The problem

Embodiment Construction

[0026] As shown in FIG. 1 , the badminton racket of the present invention generally includes a frame 1 , a rod 2 and a handle 3 .

[0027] As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the frame 1 and rod 2 are connected together by a T-joint 4 inside the frame and rod.

[0028] The frame 1 and rod 2 are hollow tube structures, they are made of FRP, which is mainly made of carbon fiber. The T-joint 4 is made of metal such as aluminum alloy.

[0029] The T-joint 4 comprises a generally horizontal arm 5 and a vertical rod 6 extending downwards from the center of the arm. The horizontal arm 5 has an elliptical cross-section like the frame 1 and the vertical rod has a circular cross-section like the rod 2 .

[0030] A rib (small raised strip) 7 is formed along the central portion of the upper surface of the horizontal arm 5 and extends over the entire length of this surface. Preferably, the height of the rib decreases towards its ends so that the arms can be easily inserted into the opposite op...

Abstract

A badminton racket comprises an oval-shaped frame and a hollow shaft joined together by a T-joint coated with adhesive. A vertical stem of the T-joint is provided with a plurality of ribs extending axially on the external surface thereof. The ribs are formed such that, when the T-joint is inserted into an upper open end of the shaft, top edges of the ribs are brought into close contact with inner surface of the shaft.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This patent application claims the priority of Japanese Patent Application No. 2002-233275 filed on August 9, 2002. technical field [0003] The invention relates to a badminton racket, which comprises an elliptical frame and a hollow rod, which are connected together by a T-shaped joint coated with adhesive. The T-joint has a horizontal arm and a vertical rod extending downward from a central portion of the horizontal arm. The horizontal arm is inserted into the opposite end of the frame, and the vertical rod is inserted into the upper open end of the hollow rod. Background technique [0004] A prior art badminton racket of this type is known from Japanese Utility Model Application No. 2-19163. This prior art badminton racket is manufactured by the following steps: firstly the T-joint is coated with an adhesive such as liquid epoxy resin; the vertical rod of the T-joint is inserted into the open upper end of the hol...
