Abstract

A method and apparatus for processing web documents over a computer network to represent them in a web browser is provided. According to this method, a web page in which at least one prebrowse link is embedded is provided to a web browser. Web documents linked to prebrowse links are made to be in such a state that the web documents can be represented through the web browser even if a user does not request them. When a prebrowse event occurs with respect to one of the prebrowse links, a web document linked to the prebrowse link is shown through the web browser. Accordingly, the method can prefetch a client system web documents linked to prebrowse links among the links embedded in a web page before users request the web documents linked to the prebrowse links. Accordingly, latency perceived by users who surf the web can be further reduced. Moreover, the present invention previously shows web documents which are prefetched for the client system, thereby allowing a user to see the content of web documents linked to prebrowse links without leaving a URL which is currently shown in the address input window of a web browser.
