367 results about "Web document" patented technology

A web document is similar in concept to a web page, but also satisfies the following broader definition by W3C: "... Every Web document has its own URI. Note that a Web document is not the same as a file: a single Web document can be available in many different formats and languages, and a single file, for example a PHP script, may be responsible for generating a large number of Web documents with different URIs. A Web document is defined as something that has a URI and can return representations of the identified resource in response to HTTP requests. In technical literature ... the term Information Resource is used instead of Web document.". The term "web document" has been used as a fuzzy term in many sources but in all of them the W3C definition given above applies. Recent research in fields like "Web Document Retrieval" and "Web Document Analysis" has revived interest in clarifying the correct use of the term. Some argue that "document" is an inappropriate term for content with external dependencies, and is only meaningfully applied to stand-alone content, such as in PDF or EPUB formats.

Mechanism and apparatus for using messages to look up documents stored in spaces in a distributed computing environment

A system and method for searching for documents within spaces in a distributed computing environment are provided. A client sends a lookup message to a space which stores documents. The lookup message may specify desired characteristics, such as a name or partial XML schema, of the stored documents. The documents may include XML service advertisements and XML device advertisements as well as general-purpose XML documents. A set of zero or more documents which match the lookup message are discovered. In one embodiment, the lookup message may include a desired name. If the lookup message includes both a desired name and a desired schema, the set of discovered documents may include both discovered documents having a name that matches the desired name and discovered documents having a schema that matches the desired schema. If the lookup message includes neither a desired name nor a desired schema, the set of discovered documents may include substantially all the documents stored in the space. After the matching documents are found, the space may send a lookup response message to the client. For each discovered document, the lookup response message may include a name and an advertisement. Each advertisement may include information which is usable by the client to obtain the respective discovered document or access the resource (e.g., a service) that the document advertises. The advertisements and messages may be expressed in a data representation language such as XML.

Suggesting targeting information for ads, such as Websites and/or categories of Websites for example

One or more keywords and/or information about one or more properties may be accepted, and a set of one or more taxonomy categories may be determined using at least some of the keyword(s) and/or property information. Each of the taxonomy categories may be a vertical category, and at least one of the set of one or more determined taxonomy categories may be presented to an advertising user as an ad targeting suggestion. Each of the taxonomy categories may have at least one property (e.g., Web document), that participates in an advertising network, associated with it. An advertiser selection of a suggested taxonomy category may be accepted, the serving of an ad of the advertiser may be targeted to each of the at least one property (e.g., Web document) associated with the selected suggested taxonomy category. An offer for association with the selected suggested taxonomy category may be provided by the advertiser. A set of one or more properties (e.g., Web documents) may be determined using at least some of the determined one or more taxonomy categories. Such properties (perhaps along with viewing information) may be presented to an advertising user as an ad targeting suggestion. A suggested property (e.g., Web document) may be selected by a user. If so, the serving of an ad of the advertiser may be targeted to the selected suggested property. An offer for association with the selected suggested document may be accepted from the advertiser. The set of one or more taxonomy categories may be performed by determining a set of one or more semantic clusters (e.g., term co-occurrence clusters) using the accepted keyword(s) and/or property information, and determining a set of one or more taxonomy categories using at least some of the one or more semantic clusters.

Methods and apparatus for interactive map-based analysis of digital video content

The present invention provides electronic methods and apparatus for interactively authoring, sharing and analyzing digital video content. Methods for authoring include displaying visual data, defining each traversal as a time-based sequence of frames and annotating and storing a record of the traversal and its associated audio records. Defining the traversal includes interactively panning the visual data by positioning an overlay window relative to the visual data and zooming in or out by resizing the overlay window. In alternative embodiments, the visual data may be displayed in a rectangular layout or a cylindrical layout. The methods are practiced using an integrated graphical interface, including an overview region displaying the visual data, a detail region displaying current data within the overlay window, and a worksheet region displaying a list of previously stored annotated traversal records. In a further aspect, the worksheet region list of annotated traversal records is published in a web document accessible via network using a standard HTML browser, and further annotations may be added by a community of network users. Analytical methods are also provided in which data markers corresponding to traversal records are plotted against an interactive abstract map enabling users to shift between levels of abstraction in exploring the video record.

Dynamically creating hyperlinks to other web documents in received world wide web documents based on text terms in the received document defined as of interest to user

The user receiving a World Wide Web (Web) page is provided with an implementation for predetermining subject matter, terms and words for which the user desires to have hyperlinks in a received web document. It further provides for displaying in the received web document multiple hyperlinks for each predetermined term of interest to thereby substantially reduce the user browsing through several levels of web documents in pursuit of topics of interest. Search engines for locating web documents related to the defined words are provided together with implementations for creating hyperlinks from the received web document to at least some of the located web documents. The system may be implemented by highlighting the defined words in the received web document, and responsive to a user interactive selection of a highlighted defined word in the received document, displaying a menu of a plurality of hyperlinks to the located web documents related to the selected highlighted defined word. The located predefined words may be highlighted in the form of word buttons. Also, the menu, of the plurality of hyperlinks, is to the most relevant of the located web documents related to the selected highlighted defined word.

Internet-based system for collecting, managing and serving consumer product-related information over the internet using trademarks and universal resource locators (URLS) symbolically-linked by manufacturers of consumer products and/or their agents

An Internet-based system for collecting, managing and serving consumer product-related information over the Internet. The system comprises a database management subsystem for storing and managing information representative of (i) a plurality of trademarks placed on or used in connection with a plurality of consumer products, and (ii) a plurality of Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) symbolically linked to the trademarks and specifying the location of a plurality of Web documents stored in one or more Internet-based information servers, by manufacturers, their agents and/or third parties, and contain particular kinds of information related to consumer products on which the trademarks are placed and used in commerce. A trademark/URL information server accesses one or more URLs from the database management subsystem in response to a request placed therewith by a consumer-operated client computer subsystem. Each manufacturer uses a manufacturer-managed client computer subsystem to transmit to the database management subsystem, information representative of a plurality of symbolically linked trademarks and URLs. Each consumer uses a consumer-operated client computer subsystem to access one or more URLs from the database management subsystem in response to a request transmitted to the trademark/URL information server. The accessed URLs are then used to access and display Web documents specified by the URLs and containing consumer product related information. Using the present invention, large databases containing symbolically linked trademarks and URLs can be created and managed, so that corresponding consumer product related information on the World Wide Web (WWW) can be reliably accessed and displayed by consumers using trademarks.
