The clip 100 and other similar designs are designed specifically as hemostatic clips that can be closed around a blood vessel or other type of tissue to ligate the blood vessel, thereby preventing or reducing fluid flow through the blood vessel. Clip 100 may be constructed of any suitable biocompatible material, including certain metallic and polymeric components. Clip 100 is substantially symmetrical and generally "C", "U" or "V" shaped. The body of the clip 100 includes a first branch 102 and a second branch 104 connected at their proximal ends by an integral joint portion 106 .
