A project practical method for thawing ice on an AC incoming line of a HVDC substation is characterized in that a back-to-back converter unit connection is composed of two poles of the HVDC substation; one pole is used as a rectifier, while the other pole is used as an inverter; an AC line is coupled in a pole line of the back-to-back converter unit, so that DC current of the same intensity flows through the AC line as well as the inverter for thawing the ice on the AC line.
