Abstract

A system for the shifting of gear ratio in a gear box of a vehicle, which system comprises a gear shift lever (1) which is moveable in at least one shift gate wherein one or plural positions each represents specific gear ratios or a neutral mode. The system further comprises at least one cable (4) arranged with a cable cover (10) fitted loosely around the cable (4). The movements of the cable (4) transfer the information of the specific gear ratio as requested by the gear shift lever (1) to a shifting mechanism (2) of the gear box. An assistance mechanism (8) provides a power contribution for the shifting mechanism (2) to carry out the shifting operation. The system further comprises a valve (9) for the control of the power assistance mechanism (8). The operation of the gear shift lever (1) causes the cable (4) to move in one direction and the cable cover (10) to move in the opposite direction. The valve (9) is operated by the movement of the cable cover (10). The invention also includes a method for operating the valve (9).
