Embodiment Construction

[0026] In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the pin assembly 10 has a locking pin 12 that fits into a similarly sized hole (not shown) in the latch mechanism. Lock pin 12 is adjustable, self-centering and self-aligning.

[0027] like figure 1 As shown in the exploded view of , the pin assembly 10 has a housing 16 including a hole or well 17 . The housing 16 is designed to accommodate a second slide 18 having a hole 19 . It should be noted that the hole 19 is larger than the largest cross-section of the base 32 so that the base 32 can move back and forth in the hole 19 .

[0028] The spring 28 is designed to sit in the cavity 17 of the housing 16 and to bear against the head 31 of the guide pin 30 . Guide pin 30 enters lock pin 12 through base 32 .

[0029] In this embodiment, the lock pin 12 and base 32 are integral and fixed into the pin plate 14 such that there is no movement between the lock pin 12 , base 32 and pin plate 14 . The pin plate 14 includes t...

Abstract

The invention provides a pin assembly (10) useful for situations of high vibration, such as hatches or lockers on aircraft. Pin assembly (10) has a locking pin (12) adapted for insertion in a latching mechanism. Locking pin (12) has a maximum cross-section. Assembly (10) also includes a base (32) for locking pin (12) and at least one slip plate (20) which has an aperture (21) which is larger than the maximum cross-section of the locking pin (12).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to pin assemblies. While the pin assembly of the present invention is broadly applicable to any door or lock situation, the following description will focus on fastener assemblies used in the aerospace industry, particularly those found in aircraft storage compartments. However, it should be understood that the invention is not limited to this application. Background technique [0002] Typically storage units in aircraft utilize mechanical or electromechanical locking mechanisms. A latch generally includes a mechanism that engages a male pin or a strike ring when the door is closed. In the closed position, the latch remains engaged with the insertion portion. To release the door, the user simply lifts the latch handle or, in the case of an electromagnetic latch, presses a switch which releases the door. While such systems have generally been successful in keeping items stowed during a voyage, problems remain. During f...
