Embodiment Construction

[0012] Referring first to FIG. 1 , the padlock includes a main body 10 , a U-shaped locking member 11 and a lock cylinder 12 . The locking member 11 has arms 13 a , 13 b received in respective channels 14 a , 14 b of the first end face 15 of the body 10 . The arms 13a, 13b and the channels 14a, 14b may have a circular cross-section, but this is not essential.

[0013] The lock cylinder 12 is received in a bore 16 in the body 10 extending from the second end of the body 10 to the interior of the body 10 . Lock cylinder 10 and bore 16 may have a circular cross-section. The lock cylinder 12 is formed of two axially separated parts, one part being the locking unit 17 and the other being the electronic module 18 . The locking unit 17 is closer to the open end of the main body 10 and the electronic module 18 is farther away from the open end. The locking unit 17 is operated by a key 19 and includes a mechanism 20 that converts the rotation of the key 21 in a sense into a radially...

Abstract

The invention relates to a lock. A lock has a body (10) holding a locking member (11) that can be locked to or released from the body (10) by, for example, operation of a key (21). The lock includes an alarm (25) that is triggered by the locking of the locking member (11). If, however, the lock is unlocked and relocked within a predetermined time interval, the alarm (25) is disarmed. In this way, the lock can remain locked but with the alarm (25) disarmed. The signals that cause the alarm (25) to arm and disarm can be produced in any convenient way.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to locks, and more particularly to locks incorporating alarms. Background technique [0002] It is known to provide a lock comprising a body and a locking member lockable to the body and unlockable for opening movement relative to the body, the body comprising a siren and a siren trigger operable when the locking member is locked to the body to activate the alarm. The siren trigger can be operated, for example, by locking movement of a key or by operating a key to lock the locking member. [0003] One problem with such locks is that while it is desirable to have an alarm that is operable when the lock is locking use of the device, there may be situations that require the lock member to be in the locked position without the alarm being operational. This may for example be the case when the lock is transported. There is a danger that the alarm will operate in such a situation. Contents of the invention [0004] Accordi...
