Abstract

A heater system includes a plurality of articulating carrier members, wherein each articulating carrier member defines an inner peripheral surface, an outer receiving portion, and a connecting portion. A plurality of resistive heating elements are disposed within the outer receiving portion of the hinged carrier member, end fittings are disposed adjacent to ends of the hinged carrier member and the resistive heating elements, a cover plate is disposed about the hinged carrier member and the resistive heating elements, and an inner portion of the carrier member The peripheral surface is adapted to transfer heat to a target, and the connecting portion is adapted to be secured to at least one of an adjacent carrier member and said heated target. In one form, at least one set of the carrier member and the resistive heating element are resiliently movable such that the heater system provides feedback to the installer that the heater system is properly installed about the object.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to the field of electric heaters used in pipelines, and more particularly to electric heaters used in gas lines and pumping lines such as, for example, semiconductor processing systems. Background technique [0002] What is stated in this section merely provides background information related to the present disclosure and may not constitute prior art. [0003] Supplying fluids, such as oil, gas, water, etc., from supplies such as oil wells or reservoirs requires transporting these fluids through conduits or the like. In addition to maintaining the fluid at or above a certain temperature, it is often desirable to maintain the free and unimpeded flow of the fluid within the catheter. Currently, electric heaters in the form of cables or strips, referred to in the art as "traces", are commonly used around conduits to provide heat to the conduits as well as to the fluid. Additionally, the conduit and heat trace are ...
