Embodiment Construction

[0051] refer to Figure 1a and 1b , shows a communication network employing a configuration such as a peer-to-peer network. for in Figure 1a In the example wireless network 2 shown in , there are four nodes 1-4, and a node N indicating that the network can have multiple (N) nodes. for Figure 1a In the embodiment of the invention shown in , it is assumed that each node shown can be represented by Figure 1b Node 4 represents that since each node of the network may be a medical device including a radio, which may be a transmitter or a transceiver. The medical device may be any of a number of devices that monitor or measure a physical attribute or parameter of a patient or subject. Such medical devices include, but are not limited to, oximeters, heart rate monitors, capnography or CO2 monitors, pumps connected to the patient, and other devices that monitor specific physical attributes of the patient. For example, in the case of a pulse oximeter, the oxygen content (SPO2) of ...

Abstract

A wireless network as a peer-to-peer network has two types of nodes: sender type nodes and receiver / relay type nodes. The network may be used in a medical instrumentation environment whereby the sender type node may be wireless devices that could monitor physical parameters of a patient. The receiver type node are mobile wireless communicators that are adapted to receive the data from the wireless devices. After an aggregation process involving the received data, each of the node communicators broadcasts or disseminates its most up to date data onto the network. Any other relay communicator node in the network that is within the broadcast range of a broadcasting communicator node would receive the up to date data. Each communicator in the network is capable of receiving and displaying data from the wireless devices.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to wireless telecommunications networks that may be used in the medical industry, and more particularly to node networks having multiple node communicators for remote communication of patient parameters from the location where the patient is being monitored. Also disclosed are inventions relating to methods of remotely transmitting or disseminating patient information along such networks and apparatus for use in such wireless telecommunications networks. Background technique [0002] In order to remotely monitor a patient's physical parameters, such as blood pressure, arterial oxygen saturation (SP02), heart rate, ECG, etc., sensors are usually attached to the patient, wherein the sensor is connected to a transmitter that Transmit patient signal to central nursing station. Such transmissions are usually by hardwire, and more recently by wireless. At the nursing station, which may be located in a general ward of a hospita...
