The embodiments of the present invention provide a method for protection of a Multi-Terminal Direct Current (MTDC) system. The MTDC system includes a plurality of converter stations in series. The method comprises detecting a DC short circuit fault on a transmission line of the MTDC system; and determining an operation condition of respective converter stations associated with the DC short circuit fault.
