Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention, belonging to the field of communications technologies, disclose a virtual machine migration method and apparatus, which can, under the circumstance of centralized resources, solve the problem of excessive resources occupied for data transmission after virtue machines executing tasks generated by a same application in a cloud computing data center are migrated. The method according to the embodiments of the present invention comprises: when an acquired resource usage rate of a physical server is greater than a resource usage rate threshold, dividing all the virtual machines into at least one virtual machine set; determining, according to the resource usage rate of each virtual machine in the at least one virtual machine set, a virtual machine to be migrated on the physical server until a sum of the resource usage rates of all the virtual machines except the virtual machine to be migrated is less than or equal to the resource usage rate threshold; and according to an acquired migration bandwidth, migrating the virtual machines to be migrated pertaining to the same virtual machine set among the virtual machines to be migrated to another individual physical server except the physical server. The method and apparatus according to the present invention is applicable to the cloud computing data center.
