Abstract

The invention provides a message transmission method and device. The method is applied to a network device which comprises a forwarding chip and a processor. The method comprises the steps of, by the forwarding chip, receiving a message, sending the message to the processor when the message is succeeded in matching an inner-layer fast forwarding table item and failed in matching an outer-layer fast forwarding table item, and indicating that the message is the message which is succeeded in matching an inner-layer fast forwarding table item and failed in matching an outer-layer fast forwarding table item for the processor; and when the message is received by the processor and if the message is determined to be the message which is succeeded in matching an inner-layer fast forwarding table item and failed in matching an outer-layer fast forwarding table item, sending the message through a routing table. By applying the embodiment, the forwarding chip can indicate that the message is the message which is succeeded in matching an inner-layer fast forwarding table item and failed in matching an outer-layer fast forwarding table item for the processor, accordingly normal service transmission can be guaranteed, and service interruption can be avoided.
