Abstract

A transceiver station (20) provides wireless resources including at least one communication feature for users in a geographical coverage area (100). The geographical coverage area includes a plurality of cells (CELL1-CELL9), and each of the plurality of cells is associated with a different combination of at least one carrier (C1, C2, C3) and at least one sector (S1, S2, S3). The transceiver station includes: a first board (202-1, 202-2, 202-3) having a first L1 processing circuit (2020-1, 2020-2, 2020-3) configured to perform functions associated with providing the at least one communication feature for a user (USER1) in a first subset of the plurality of cells; and a second board (202-1, 202-2, 202-3) configured to exchange at least control information with the first board. The second board includes a second L1 processing circuit (2020-1, 2020-2, 2020-3) configured to perform functions associated with providing the at least one communication feature for the user in a second subset of the plurality of cells.

Description

Background technique [0001] Wireless technology standards, such as third, fourth, and fifth generation standards, adopt new technologies, add new features, and increase data rates faster than actual hardware can be developed and deployed. Consequently, the capacity of Node B (or base station) platforms (eg, hardware boards such as modem boards) fills up rapidly. This reduces the platform lifecycle, which requires new platforms to be developed more frequently. However, developing a new platform not only increases costs, but may also delay product delivery time. [0002] 5th generation wireless systems are the next evolution in the wireless communications industry. Such a system can integrate second, third, fourth and fifth generation components as well as WiFi to form a globally networked system. Fifth generation systems can have data rates 10-100 times faster than today's data rates and can connect a wider range of devices to service the Internet of Things. Compared with t...
