Abstract

A method and system for controlling a mobile robot to perform mapping. The method comprises: determining mapping state information of a current map block where a mobile robot is located (S11); when the mapping state information comprises a mapping available state, automatically turning on a mapping master switch to control the mobile robot to enable the building of a grid map for the current map block (S12); and when a turnoff condition of the mapping master switch is satisfied, turning off the mapping master switch to control the mobile robot to disable the building of the grid map for the current map block (S13). A mapping switch can be automatically controlled to achieve mapping, such that a mapping process by a mobile robot becomes more intelligent and thus does not need excessive human intervention, and the robot can better adapt to environmental changes in a task completing process.
