The method comprises the following steps: acquiring two groups of body temperature data output by two temperature sensing units in the electronic thermometer; detecting whether the thermometer is placed correctly or not according to correlation of the two groups of body temperature data; and giving out a prompt message that the thermometer is incorrectly placed when the thermometer is incorrectly placed. By adopting the method for detecting placement of the thermometer, a user canbe timely reminded to place the thermometer in a correct means when the thermometer is incorrectly placed, so that accuracy of the electronic thermometer in measurement of human body temperature is improved, and user experience in a process of measuring body temperature by adopting the electronic thermometer is improved.
