Embodiment

[0124] Various embodiments of the present invention may be better understood by reference to the following examples, which are provided by way of illustration. The invention is not limited to the examples given herein.

[0125] Vegetable oil feedstock was mixed with methanol and fed equivalent to Figure 8 An exemplary rod electrode plasma reactor is described. according to figure 1 Process flow diagram for continuously feeding vegetable oil feedstock into the plasma reaction with pumps and lines.

[0126] In the plasma reactor, connect the high-voltage rod electrode with an AC power source, and set the voltage and frequency through the control module. Dissolve the basic or acidic catalyst (concentration: 0 mol / mol to 1 mol / mol) in alcohol (e.g., one or more of methanol, ethanol, etc.), and add the alcohol-catalyst solution to the oil base , wherein the molar ratio of alcohol to oil is 3:1 to 12:1. The mixture was stirred until fully blended and pumped through the plasma ...

Abstract

A process comprises feeding a stream of reactant compounds to a reactor and discharging liquid plasma into the reactant stream in the reactor, wherein the plasma initiates or accelerates a reaction ofthe reactant compounds to form a product composition. The reactor can comprise one or more chambers, a high-voltage electrode positioned at a first portion of the one or more chambers, a ground electrode positioned at a second portion of the one or more chambers, and a dielectric plate between the ground electrode and the high-voltage electrode that comprises openings through which the reactant stream can pass from the first portion to the second portion or from the second portion to the first portion. Discharging the plasma can include supplying electrical power to the high-voltage electrodesuch that plasma is discharged where the reactant stream flows through the openings.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 286,715, entitled "A LIQUED PLASMA DISCHARGEDEVICE AND METHOD FOR BIODIESEL SYNTHESIS USING SAME," by Wu et al., filed January 25, 2016, which is incorporated by reference Incorporated into this article as a whole. Background technique [0003] As a renewable fuel, biodiesel has become an attractive alternative to petroleum-based diesel fuel. Biodiesel generally burns cleaner than petroleum-based diesel and is formed by a well-established transesterification technique that has been widely used since the 1990s. Accordingly, the United States of America is promoting large-scale industrial biodiesel production to address the challenges of energy independence, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability. [0004] Vegetable oils and / or animal fats have traditionally been the main feedstocks for global biodiesel pro...
