Embodiment Construction

[0014] figure 1 Reference numeral 1 in indicates generally a device for storing a human breath sample according to the invention.

[0015] Device 1 includes:

[0016] - a metering device 2 with an inlet 3 and a delivery 4;

[0017] - a dispenser device 5 in fluid communication with the delivery port 4 of the metering device 2;

[0018] - a supply unit 6 configured for delivering a fluid flow through its delivery opening 7; preferably the supply unit 6 is an active component, such as a compressor for air (or generally gas), but in some variants , passive components such as pressurized fluid accumulators can be envisaged;

[0019] - collection port 8 configured for inhalation of a human breath sample; and

[0020] - Select valve 9.

[0021] The dispenser device 5 is configured for fluid connection with a storage container ST, preferably an aerosol can, more preferably an aerosol can with a bag defining a Active agent (replaced in this case by a human breath sample). A hou...

Abstract

Described herein is an apparatus (1; 1*; 1**; 100; 100*) for storing a sample of human breath, which comprises: a metering device (2) having an inlet port (3) and a delivery port (4); a dispenser device (5) in fluid communication with the delivery port (4) of the metering device (2); a supply unit (6) configured for delivering a flow of fluid through a delivery port (7) of its own; an acquisitionport (8) configured for intake of a sample of human breath; and a selection valve (9; 9**). The selection valve (9; 9**) includes a first operating condition (9A), in which a fluid communication is obtained between the acquisition port (8) and the inlet port (3) of the metering device (2), and a second operating condition (9B; 9B**), in which a fluid communication is obtained between the deliveryport (7) of the supply unit (6) and said metering device (2).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention was developed with reference to the sampling and storage of human breath samples, especially for medical analysis. Background technique [0002] Given that human exhaled breath may contain a variety of chemicals indicative of pathological cancer conditions, collecting human breath samples is now a potential tool for the clinical diagnosis of oncology. The effectiveness of breath analysis lies primarily in the extreme ease of sampling, which takes place in a completely non-invasive manner and without any special effort on the part of the patient. [0003] An inherent problem with any human breath sample is the instability of the sample itself. Samples are vulnerable to contamination and are currently only stored in an ad hoc fashion in the same container used for sampling, typically a bag made of polymeric material with one or more stoppers that enable access to its contents. In fact, it is the sampling container itself that pose...
