Embodiment Construction

[0037] Figure 1 shows an intragastric balloon 1 according to the invention. The balloon is designed to treat obesity, for which it is implanted in the patient's stomach to reduce the volume of the stomach, in which case the balloon takes up most of the space that would otherwise be used for food.

[0038] The intragastric balloon 1 according to the invention is expandable, i.e. it is arranged to have two configurations: a folded or a relaxed configuration (not shown in the figure), wherein it occupies a smaller volume, making it easy to Implantation; followed by an inflated structure of approximately a predetermined volume (eg, on the order of 600 milliliters (mL)), corresponding to its volume in use, as specifically shown in FIG. 1 .

[0039] Preferably, the inflation properties of the intragastric balloon 1 are obtained firstly by making it of a flexible material (e.g., elastomer), and secondly by allowing it to enter into its inflation by means of one or more inflation flui...

Abstract

The present invention relates to an inflatable intragastric balloon (1) for the treatment of obesity, intended to be implanted in the stomach of a patient, thereby reducing the volume of the stomach. Said balloon (1) comprises at least one flexible bag (2) having opposite inner side (2A) and outer side (2B), such that said inner side (2A) and outer side (2B) form at least one flexible bag ( 2), the balloon is characterized in that at least a part of said surface (2A, 2B) is covered by a coating (6, 6') made of parylene. The intragastric balloon is used to treat obesity.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of artificial devices for the treatment of obesity, especially morbid obesity, and more particularly, the present invention relates to devices that artificially reduce the volume of the gastric cavity, thereby causing a rapid satiety in the patient. [0002] The present invention relates to an inflatable intragastric balloon for the treatment of obesity, the balloon is designed to be implanted in the stomach of a patient so as to reduce the volume of the stomach, said balloon comprises at least one flexible pouch having an inner side and an opposite outer side, said inner side and outer side forming at least one surface of said flexible bag. [0003] The present invention also relates to a method of manufacturing an inflatable intragastric balloon for the treatment of obesity, for implantation in a patient's stomach, thereby reducing the volume of the stomach, wherein at least one endogastric balloon h...
