Problems solved by technology

However this creates a high surface pressure on the working face of the disc, which leads to high wear when the engine is running
This wear reduces the efficiency of the internal combustion engine, resulting in increased fuel consumption

Embodiment Construction

[0026] It can be seen from the figure that the scraper ring consists of a disc 1 which is arranged in a ring groove 7 which contains a ring groove side 5 of the piston facing the piston crown and a ring groove side 5 facing away from the piston. The ring groove side 6 in the direction of the top. According to the invention, the disk 1 has a crown-shaped, asymmetrically shaped running surface h comprising an apex line 3 extending on the periphery of the disk, wherein the apex line 3 is used for oil scraping in contact with the cylinder wall 8 side. In the exemplary embodiment, the disk 1 is arranged in the assembled state of the piston such that the apex line 3 of the running surface h is oriented in the direction of the ring groove side 6 facing away from the top side of the piston.

[0027] The disk 1 has disk sides 2 and 2' which extend radially outwards at an angle α so close to the running surface h that the side 2' abuts against the ring groove side 5 facing the top side...

Abstract

The invention relates to an oil scraper ring for pistons of internal combustion engines, said oil scraper ring comprising a disc (1) provided with a bearing surface (h) having an asymmetrical crowned form with a vertex line (3) extending over the periphery of the disc. Said disk (1) is arranged in a ring groove (7) of the piston and respectively has a ring groove side (6) opposing the piston head and a parallel ring groove side (5) facing the piston head. The aim of the invention is to achieve an improved oil scraping action compared to that of prior art, while reducing the friction and the abrasion of the bearing surface. To this end, the disk flanks (2, 2') extend radially outwards to the bearing surface (h), at an angle (A), in a convergent manner, in such a way that when the flank is placed on the ring groove side (5) facing the piston head, the disc is only in contact with the cylinder wall (8) with the vertex line (3) thereof, and when one of the disc flanks is placed on the ring groove side (6) opposing the piston head, the disc is only in contact with the cylinder wall with a first section (I) of the bearing surface (h) thereof. The cross-section of the bearing surface (h) of the disc (1) is characterised by: a first section (I) having an asymmetrical form following a second degree polynominal with the formula h(x)= ax + bx<2>, wherein x represents bearing surface co-ordinates in the cartesian co-ordinates system in mm, and a, b represent coefficients where a is defined by the ratio of the axial flank play of the discs to the width of the disks, and b is defined as the value of the bearing surface curvature; a carrying vertex (II) h(x=0) embodied as an edge; and, a third section (III) of the asymmetrical form following the function h(x)= cx<2>, where c is a multiple of b.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to an oil scraper ring for a piston of an internal combustion engine, the oil scraper ring consisting of a disc whose working face has a crown-shaped asymmetric shape comprising a line of vertices extending over the periphery of the disc Line, wherein the disk is arranged in a ring groove of the piston, the ring groove comprises a ring groove side facing away from the top side of the piston and a side of the ring groove facing the top side of the piston, which are arranged parallel to each other. Background technique [0002] Excessive engine oil reaching the combustion chamber, in addition to high fuel consumption, can also have a negative impact on the engine's emissions performance. In order to prevent this phenomenon, a sufficient tangential force of the oil wiper ring for generating a radial contact pressure on the cylinder wall, and thus a good oil scraping action, is indispensable. However, this creates a high surface pres...
