Embodiment Construction

[0028] figure 1 The toilet trip lever assembly 10 of the present invention is shown mounted on the side wall 11 of a conventional toilet tank 12 . The outlet pipe 13 leads to a common toilet (not shown), and is sealed by an outlet flush valve 14 . It should be understood that the details of the flush valve mechanism are not critical and that many other such mechanisms that are activated by a jerk upward may be used with the present invention.

[0029] The common water inlet pipe 15 is connected to a conventional inlet valve 16 which is controlled by a float 17 in a conventional manner. A chain 18 or other linkage connects the trip lever assembly 10 of the present invention to the outlet flush valve 14 so that when the trip lever assembly 10 is operated, the outlet valve 14 is controlled to rise out of its position. As is well known, the lift valve 14 leaves its position on the outlet pipe 13 to allow the toilet to flush.

Abstract

A toilet trip lever assembly (10) provides a lever (28) extending within a tank perpendicular to the tank wall. When the outer handle (20) is rotated, it drives the rod (42), which then drives an arm (90) extending inside the tank parallel to the tank wall, which pushes down on one end of the lever (28). A bracket (26) supports the lever such that downward movement of the end of the lever drives the opposing end of the lever upward. The opposite end of the lever is connected to the linkage (18) of the flush valve.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to trip lever devices. It is particularly suitable for providing a toilet trip lever arrangement controlling a flush valve located on or near the bottom of the toilet tank. Background technique [0002] Various toilet trip lever arrangements are well known. These devices are usually mounted on the side wall of the toilet tank, with the handle located on the outside of the tank and attached to the rod. The rod is rotatably mounted through the tank wall. A release rod (usually extending from the rod along the tank wall) is connected to the rod inside the toilet tank. [0003] One end of the release lever is connected to a chain, which is then connected to a common toilet tank outlet valve. When the user rotates the handle, it rotates the release lever, thereby moving up its outer end, which in turn pulls up the chain, thus pulling up the tank outlet valve. [0004] Depending on the space constraints within the tank and ...
