A method for supporting a mobile station to carry out ranging is disclosed by the invention's embodiment,including obtaining the indication information of channel quality provided by all potential target relay stations of the mobile station,determining the common frame information which is occupied by allocating dedicated initial ranging transmission opportunity information according to the indication information of channel quality,notifying the determined common frame information to the mobile station and the potential target relay station.Correspondingly,a base station and a relay station is disclosed.The invention can be used to determinethe dedicated frame which is used to allocate dedicated initial ranging transmission opportunity information to a mobile station in a multi-hop relay wireless communication system, when a relay station acting as a potential target base station.
