The invention discloses a method for controlling a webpage by using an extensive makeup language (XML) protocol, which comprises the following steps of: 1) extending description schemes of video streaming, programs, frames, hierarchies and targets in a motion picture experts group (MPEG)-7 standard; 2) defining the format of an XML video resource description file; 3) processing a video file, creating the XML video resource description file corresponding to video content, and based on an XML video resource scanning file, controlling a video internal resource and/or a video external resource; 4) responding to videos in a webpage and analyzing the corresponding XML video resource scanning file; and 5) realizing interaction with the videos in video displaying processes.
