The transmitter takes the form of a charging housing 2 with side walls 3 and a base part 4 . The transmitter comprises a coil 5 which generates a time-varying magnetic field inside the housing. Arranged inside the housing is a device 6 comprising a receiving coil 7 which is inductively coupled to the time-varying magnetic field and generates an electrical current which can be used to charge or power the device. The coil is surrounded by the side walls of the housing and wound around the perimeter of the housing, coplanar with the base portion, as figure 1 shown by the dotted line in .
