A method and system for terminating a connection by a user, the method comprising: a Residential Gateway (RG) of a fixed network, upon receiving information of terminating a connection from a User Equipment (UE), requests connection termination from an Access Network (AN) of an international standards organization Broadband Forum (BBF), and the Access Network (AN) of the Broadband Forum (BBF) releases the resource information allocated for the UE. In an embodiment of the present invention, when the UE initiates termination of a connection, a network side releases the resource information related to the UE in a timely manner, thus saving network resource.
