[0024] reference figure 1 , A portion of the exemplary transmission is generally indicated by the symbol 10. The transmission 10 may be a multi-speed transmission, an automatic transmission, a continuously variable transmission (CVT), a DCT, or a manual shift transmission. The transmission 10 shown is a front-wheel drive automatic transmission, but it should be understood that the transmission 10 may be a rear-wheel drive transmission without departing from the scope of the present invention. The transmission 10 generally includes a transmission 12 that houses an oil sump section 14 and a gear train section 16.

[0025] The gearbox 12 may be a cast metal shell, which encloses and protects various components of the gearbox 10. The gearbox 12 includes various holes, passages, shoulders, and flanges that locate and support these components. More specifically, the gearbox 12 defines an axially extending central cavity 18 that includes a front portion 20 and a rear portion 22. The ...

Abstract

A variable baffle for controlling oil flow at a gear mesh includes a first baffle member fixed adjacent gear teeth of a first rotating gear. The second baffle member is rotatably connected to the first baffle member. The third flapper member is fixed adjacent to the second rotary gear and is aligned with the second flapper member when the second flapper member is in the closed position. A swivel member rotatably connects the second baffle member to the first baffle member. The second flapper member can move away from the closed position to Open location.

Description

Technical field [0001] The invention relates to a transmission gear baffle that allows the directional flow of fluid generated by the rotation of gears in a fluid bath. Background technique [0002] The statements in this section only provide background information related to the present invention, and may or may not constitute prior art. [0003] Transmission systems in motor vehicles need to use hydraulic fluid or oil for lubrication and cooling to operate continuously. More specifically, engines and especially transmissions require lubricating and cooling fluids or oils to keep them running and extend their service life. The fluid circulates through the entire transmission via hydraulic channels. This fluid or oil is transferred by a pump, such as for automatic CVT or other transmissions, and can be used for splash lubrication, such as for manual DCT or other transmissions. [0004] Gears rotating in a fluid or oil medium (such as in an oil pan) will induce fluid flow. This fl...
