Abstract

The invention provides a method for estimating average soil water content and interlayer soil water content. The method comprises the following four steps: (1) acquiring thick root reflection data by a ground penetrating radar measuring way with a fixed receiving-transmitting antenna interval; (2) extracting an average wave speed from a thick root dual-curve signal by using a dual-curve automatic recognition algorithm based on RHT (Randomized Hough Transformation); (3) calculating an interlayer wave speed based on the average wave speed acquired in the step (2); (4) converting the obtained average wave speed and interlayer wave speed into the soil water content. In the method, a plant root system is taken as a reflector for estimating the soil water content, so that accurate acquisition of the average wave speed and the interlayer wave speed is realized under the condition that thick root depth information is unknown. A feasible method is provided for rapid and nondestructive acquisition of the horizontal distribution and vertical change condition of the soil water content, and has important significance to research of an interaction relationship between the plant root system and soil.
