Example Embodiment

[0048] in the attached Figure 1 to Figure 3 A loading device 2 is shown, which in this embodiment is designed for loading and unloading cargo to and from a conventional unit loading device 3 . The loading apparatus may alternatively be designed for loading and unloading a road vehicle, rail wagon, aircraft or any other cargo container with cargo.

[0049] The loading apparatus 2 includes a boom conveyor 3, which in this embodiment includes a telescopic arm 4 having a rear boom portion 6 and a front boom portion 8, the front boom portion 8 being accessible relative to the rear boom portion 6. Extends telescopically in order to adjust the overall length of the cantilever conveyor 4 . Typically, the cantilever conveyor 3 has a maximum length of about 5.5 meters when fully extended and a minimum length of about 3 meters when fully retracted. However, these dimensions are not limiting; in some applications, the cantilever conveyor can have a length of 15 meters or more when full...

Abstract

A boom conveyor apparatus (3) includes a boom (4) that carries a conveyor (9), a support structure (14) for the boom, a rear pivot joint (16) that connects a rear end of the boom to the support structure, and a pivot drive (18) that controls pivoting movement of the boom about the rear pivot joint. The boom conveyor apparatus (3) includes an operator platform (22) and an attachment mechanism (40)at a front end of the boom (4) whereby the operator platform may be attached to the boom or detached therefrom. The attachment mechanism includes a levelling mechanism (54) that is configured to applya levelling adjustment to the operator platform.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a boom conveyor for loading and unloading pallets and containers. In particular, but not exclusively, it concerns telescopic boom conveyors for use with unit loading devices (ULDs), also known as "air tanks" for transporting goods by air. These conveyors can be as high as 3 meters and can accommodate a variety of goods. Background technique [0002] On arrival at the distribution center, the goods are unloaded from the unit loader by boom and sorted for delivery to the customer / retailer. The unit loader is then reloaded with additional cargo via the cantilever for transport. [0003] Freight is typically loaded and unloaded using a pivoting telescopic boom conveyor that can telescopically extend and raise / lower as required. The goods from the unit loader are transferred by hand onto the cantilever conveyor, which then transports the goods to the distribution center by means of a running belt or a set of rotating rollers. ...
