[0109] Methods of preparing anhydrous antiperspirant cream compositions of the present invention include those methods known in the art for formulating compositions containing small particles of suspending or thickening agents. These methods include the use of nucleating agents, formulation with selected carriers or suspending or thickening agents or carrier / suspension or thickening agent mixtures, control of formulation and processing temperatures, and the like.
[0110] A preferred method of preparing the composition comprises a formulation step followed by a controlled curing step. The preparation step comprises 1) mixing the following ingredients: about 0.5% to about 35% by weight of particulate antiperspirant actives; about 0.1% to about 20% by weight of suspending or thickening agents; about 10% to about 90% by weight of Anhydrous liquid carrier, wherein the solubility parameter of the anhydrous liquid carrier is about 3 (cal / cm 3 ) 0.5 to about 13 (cal / cm 3 ) 0.5 . ...
Embodiment I-VI
[0122] The following Examples I-VI describe the perfume / cyclodextrin complexes of the present invention. Examples I-V were prepared by complexing the fragrance with β-cyclodextrin. Example VI was prepared by complexing the fragrance with gamma-cyclodextrin. The complex was prepared by mixing cyclodextrin and water in a round bottom flask and heating the mixture to about 65°C. Continue to stir while slowly adding the spices, at which point a slurry is usually observed. Heating of the mixture was then discontinued and stirring continued until the mixture cooled to ambient temperature. The resulting slurry at this point had the appearance of a milky precipitate, indicative of complex formation. The complex is then dried in a convection oven at a temperature of about 100°C or less. The complex may be washed to remove any uncomplexed perfume prior to drying. The resulting complexes are incorporated into the anhydrous antiperspirant cream compositions of the present invention t...
Embodiment VII-XII
[0126] The following Examples VII-XII describe anhydrous antiperspirant cream compositions of the present invention. Each of the exemplified compositions was prepared by combining all of the enumerated ingredients except the fragrance / cyclodextrin complex and optional free fragrance and then heating the mixture to 100 °C to form a hot liquid. The fragrance / cyclodextrin complex and optional free fragrance are then added to the hot liquid. The heated liquid is stirred and cooled until the solidification point will be reached, at this temperature, the cooled liquid composition is filled into a tank or a paste applicator, cooled without stirring or other shearing force, and applied in the corresponding A hard paste forms in the package. Each packaged composition was then provided with the above-described perforated cap through which the composition was extruded and topically applied to the skin.
