Problems solved by technology

In such a case, a problem may arise in using all hardware sound sources, that is, it is impossible to produce sounds that exceed the limits of the sound-generating hardware device.
Many musical tones cannot be reproduced
Even if there is enough processing power in the CPU, it is not possible to increase the variety of sounds

Embodiment Construction

[0054] Embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. Fig. 1 shows a schematic block diagram of a first embodiment of a musical sound generator according to the present invention. Reference numeral 10 in FIG. 1 denotes a CPU that controls various units constituting a computer system via a data bus 12 in accordance with a basic program stored in a read only memory (ROM) 11 . Reference numeral 13 denotes a RAM that temporarily stores various registers, flags and data. Reference numeral 14 denotes various types of input / output (I / O) ports for receiving and transmitting MIDI information, information provided by key operations on the keyboard, and other various information via various interface I / Fs (not shown). The multi-type I / O port 14 receives capability information in the form of MIDI messages or key messages KBD. In this embodiment, performance information can be generated by an automatic performance progr...

Abstract

A musical sound generating apparatus creates a waveform to generate a musical sound according to performance information. In the apparatus, a first waveform generator is operable for creating a waveform. A second waveform generator is operable independently from the first waveform generator for creating a waveform. An input device provides performance information. A designating device designates at least one of the first waveform generator and the second waveform generator in correspondence with the provided performance information. A controller selectively operates the designated one of the first waveform generator and the second waveform generator according to the provided performance information. An output device generates the musical sound based on the created waveform.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of patent application No. 96110417.1, filed on June 6, 1996, entitled "Computerized Music System with Software and Hardware Sound Sources". technical field [0002] The present invention relates to a musical sound generator used in computer application systems employing (CPU), such as electronic game machines, karaoke apparatuses, personal computers, etc., and more particularly to the ability to generate various musical sounds according to performance information Music sound generator. Background technique [0003] Generally, in an apparatus such as a personal computer, a dedicated hardware module such as a sound source CSI and a sound source card can be used to reproduce the musical sound by controlling the installed sound source device through a driver. The performance of CPUs in personal computers has recently been remarkably improved so that musical sounds can be generated by CPUs instead of specific hardware modules. ...
