Problems solved by technology

[0007] A disadvantage of the known prior art is that the allocation of protected and unprotected data is fixed by the physical arrangement of the memory card, the protected data being stored inside the TRM and the unprotected data being stored in another non-volatile memory module

[0022] figure 1 A memory card 1 is shown. The memory card 1 includes a protocol adapter 2 and an anti-tampering module 3 . The protocol adapter 2 includes a controller (not shown) and other elements required for data exchange between the external host system 9 and the memory card 1 through the interface 10 . The anti-tampering module 3 includes a processor 4 and a first non-volatile memory module 5 . The processor 4 includes three applications 6 which are executed inside the processor 4 . The memory card 1 also includes a second non-volatile memory module 7 . The protocol adapter 2 , the anti-tampering module 3 and the second non-volatile memory module 7 are connected through a communication bus 8 .

[0023] The host system 9 is able to access the second non-volatile memory module 7 using the interface 10 , the protocol adapter 2 , the communication bus 8 . However, the first non-volatile memory module 5 is only accessible by the processor 4 contained within the tamper-re...

Abstract

A memory card includes an anti-tamper module having at least one first non-volatile memory module and a processor for executing a plurality of applications. The memory card also includes at least one second memory module external to the tamper-resistant module and a memory management unit that allocates memory blocks from the first or second memory module to applications.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to memory cards, and more particularly, to methods and systems for allocating, accessing, and deallocating storage space of memory cards. Background technique [0002] Non-volatile memory cards are increasingly replacing other forms of data storage. These non-volatile memory cards are particularly beneficial for mobile applications because they provide high data capacity using only limited space and are insensitive to ambient magnetic fields and mechanical failures. [0003] Unlike conventional storage media such as optical discs or magnetic tapes, memory cards include a card internal controller that controls access to the card's internal memory modules. This allows one to securely store data on a memory card without exposing the data to every host system connected to the memory card. [0004] It is well known to use memory cards to securely store sensitive data for applications such as copyright protected musi...
