Some dedicated chips have limited number of physical ports. This imposes restriction on the number of other devices to be connected to and the port number of the switch system, where these chips reside in. Via connecting the dedicated chips with the low-cost Ethernet exchange chips, the invention extends the port number on the dedicated chips without increasing the dedicated chips. In the net switch system, the dedicated chips possessing port-extending function offered by this invention include a port numbering process unit. The physical ports of dedicated chips are connected with the up-going port of the low-cost Ethernet exchange chips. This invention causes the port number supported by the net switch system to increase tenfold. Thus the utility of dedicated chips are raised and the cost of whole net switch system is lowered.
