These seats lack features to prevent lateral movement, or shifting, of the seat. Often the hinge is the only point of attachment and contact between the toilet seat and the toilet. However, the weight of a large or obese person sitting on the seat can cause the seat to shift side-to-side or front-to-back, or to tilt.
