The selective mechanism allows attachment of the gaiter with a variety of footwear. A light housing is integrally disposed on an outward portion of the layer of material of the gaiter. The light housing provides illumination adjacent to the foot of a user. The combination of the gaiter and the light housing together provide a body-worn lighting device without attaching the light housing directly to any of the user, the footwear worn by the user, and clothing worn by the user.
