Embodiment Construction

[0012] For ease of illustration, the following examples are based on airport and aircraft applications. Of course, the system can also be used in land, rail and sea transportation.

[0013] The inspection system based on the present invention can inspect all luggage transported by the aircraft hold, that is to say, the inspection rate can reach 100%. Many countries have different regulations regarding the handling of inspection procedures. For this reason, we have designed various systems based on this invention, to fully adapt to the difference on this standard. In addition, the invention can also check small packages and mail that may be present in the cargo hold of the aircraft.

[0014] The luggage inspection system based on the present invention cooperates with the luggage tracking system that has been tested in practice. The system can track each piece of luggage throughout the process, and can determine the owner of the luggage when necessary. The tracking system sca...

Abstract

A system for screening items of baggage comprises attaching to each baggage item at a check-in location within a terminal an electronic tag which is periodically scanned as the item travels via a baggage sortation system from the check-in location and a loading location. All baggage items are diverted from the sortation system to an explosive detection screening system housed within a prefabricated building alongside the terminal. Baggage items which are not cleared by the explosive detection screening system are retained within the building for further inspection and cleared baggage items are re-introduced into the sortation system for travel to the loading location.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a baggage inspection system, which can inspect baggage or goods to be shipped (such as transported by an aircraft cargo hold). Background technique [0002] In response to the increasingly rampant terrorist activities, countries around the world have successively legislated to require explosives inspection (“EDS”) for all luggage shipped through aircraft cargo holds. Similar regulations are likely to apply to ocean and rail transport in the future. [0003] In many countries, the logistical demands of performing baggage screening for explosives are enormous. Even if most airports equipped with automatic baggage sorting systems want to meet this requirement, they still face difficulties in funding and facility gaps. In order to meet this requirement, airports that are not yet equipped with automated baggage sorting systems are faced with the option of installing costly automatic sorting systems that are not necessarily...
