Problems solved by technology

[0015] Basically, in the decorating methods of the prior art, the decorating stage is carried out on the already fired and possibly glazed ceramic product, so the production time of the finished decorated product is very long, mainly because of the need to set the product so that it can be decorated time plus the time required for subsequent decoration

Embodiment Construction

[0025] Referring to said figures, reference numeral 1 designates in general a press for simultaneously forming and decorating ceramic articles according to the invention.

[0026] The term "decoration" refers in the present invention to any effect that modifies an article, whether in the form of a design, line or color.

[0027] The press 1 basically comprises a first punch 2 and a second punch 3 which are movable towards and away from each other between a spaced apart position (figures 1-5) and a closed together position (figure 6). In the example shown, the press has two pairs of punches, however the press of the invention may be constructed with many pairs of punches.

[0028] In the figure, the first punch 2 is a fixed punch and the second punch 3 is a movable punch, which move horizontally, however any other mode of relative movement can be used, such as a punch movable in a vertical direction .

Abstract

A method for simultaneously forming and decorating ceramic articles, comprising the steps of: a) preparing a press (1) provided with a first punch (2) and a second punch (3) mutually movable between a spaced-apart position and a closetogether position in which a moulding cavity (4) is defined; b) drawing over the first punch (2) a frame (5) provided with an elastically deformable membrane (6), said membrane (6) being partly covered with decorative material on that side facing the second punch (3); c) driving the press (1) into said close-together position; d) loading ceramic material into said cavity (4) and subjecting it to compression to form the article; e) returning said press (1) to its spaced-apart position and withdrawing the decorated ceramic article.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method and a press for simultaneously forming and decorating ceramic articles. [0002] More particularly, the present invention relates to methods and presses for simultaneously forming and decorating earthenware, such as ceramic dishes. Background technique [0003] Ceramic articles can be decorated by many known methods, such as decal transfer methods, manual or automatic painting methods, direct screen printing methods and tampography methods. [0004] Decoration by decal transfer involves the application of designs (decals) to pressed, trimmed, glazed and fired ceramic articles. When the decoration has been applied, the article is refired to fuse the decal into the glaze. [0005] This method enables polychrome decoration, but is slow and expensive to operate. [0006] Also, decorating by decal transfer does not allow the subsequent application of glazes that would make the decor wear-resistant. [0007] Deco...
