Abstract

A method for crushing waste lithium ion batteries by liquid nitrogen low-temperature technology is characterized by comprising the following steps: the waste lithium ion batteries are sorted at normaltemperature, soaked in liquid nitrogen for 10-15 minutes for cooling, crushed into blocks with the area of 1-2cm<2> in a crusher at a low temperature, and materials are sorted by a screening and sorting device. The device consists of a sorting machine, a pre-cooling tank, a soaking cooler, a crawler conveyor, a crusher, a heat exchanger, a screw conveyor, a filter, a condenser and a liquid nitrogen storage tank which are connected by pipelines. The method has the following advantages of: the prevention of batteries from explosion and the limit of harmful substances to volatilize and cause pollution to the environment owing to the easily broken shells, no degradation but heat accumulation of the lithium ion batteries at low temperature; advanced production technology and low energy consumption; the remained original physical properties of the crushed materials, and good quality of regenerative products; and easy implementation and good economic benefit.
