[0103] The invention described herein relates to apparatus and methods related to the manufacture of panel shades for architectural openings, one embodiment of which is a retractable shade with operable vanes. The vanes are foldable, rotatable, collectible or have other types of individual or combined movement and are thus operable. In order to better understand the features of the device and method related to its use, the first part of this application is devoted to the construction of one embodiment of a retractable blind with foldable vanes. The second part is devoted to an apparatus and associated method for making such retractable shades. It is envisaged that such an apparatus could be configured to make other types of shades.

Abstract

A method of manufacturing a covering for an architectural opening includes moving a first material, moving a second material along with the first material, the second material exposing at least a portion of the first material, providing a third material adjacent the first and second materials, attaching a first portion of the third material to the second material, attaching a second portion of the third material to the exposed portion of the first material, and wherein movement of the second material relative to the first material causes the first portion of the third material to move relative to the second portion of the third material.
