Abstract

The invention relates to a method for allocating a bandwidth for machine-type communication (MTC) UE in a base station of a communication system based on MTC, wherein the bandwidth of the MTC UE is smaller than an MTC system bandwidth. The method includes the following steps: receiving a first message from the MTC UE, wherein the first message indicates an offset of a bandwidth, which is selected by the MTC UE according to a predetermined selection strategy, relative to the system bandwidth and the selected bandwidth covers a center frequency band of the system bandwidth; and determining the bandwidth selected by the MTC UE according to the first message. According to the scheme of the invention, when the capacity of the MTC is expanded through distribution of a wider bandwidth, the MTC system bandwidth and a MTC device bandwidth can be expanded asymmetrically.
