3139 results about "Switched communication network" patented technology

In computer networking and telecommunications, a switched communication network is a communication network which uses switching for connection of two non-adjacent nodes. Switched communication networks are divided into circuit switched networks, message switched networks, and packet switched networks.

Rerouting in connection-oriented communication networks and communication systems

A Private Network-Network Interface (PNNI) network including interconnected nodes is defined as a single rerouting domain (“global domain”) and the global domain is further defined by multiple divided domains (“local domains”). Each of the local domains is defined to include multiple nodes that are included in the network. Connection recovery and path optimization in the global domain (the entire PNNI network) are performed in accordance with a global rerouting protocol. The global rerouting protocol is a modification of the standard Domain-Based Rerouting (DBR) protocol, by adding information elements of domain identifier, rerouting for the global domain. The DBR protocol does not support the connection recovery from a link failure between local domains (“inter-domains”) and the global path optimization. The global rerouting method is capable of connection recovery and path optimization outside of any rerouting local domains. The global rerouting provides double fault recovery within the rerouting domain (“intra-domain”) as covered by the DBR and outside of the domains (“inter-domain”) or when the initial fault recovery within the domain has failed. Also, the global rerouting method provides maximum path optimization across all domains and within the rerouting local domain.

Wireless multimedia display device

The underlying invention generally relates to the field of mobile computing, wireless communication, and interactive multimedia applications in mobile communication networks with high-speed access. Particularly, it refers to a customized multimedia information channel system presenting advertisement information (124a) and, if desired, other multimedia streams on a mobile communication and computing device (100) equipped with a Liquid Crystal Display (102) designed to meet modern business-to-business (B2B) requirements. In this connection, interactive operation is guaranteed by a digital wireless data and control link (108) between said mobile computing device (100) and a product (122) to be advertised. In contrast to conventional solutions, said mobile computing device (100) comprises a User Control Board (101) with an Application Programming Interface (105c) providing an intercommunication between a software routine (105b), said User Control Board (101), the display (102) of said device (100), and an additional hard-disk drive (111) for storing content data (124a) to be rendered on the display (102) of said device (100). Thereby, said User Control Board (101) is capable of communicating with a specific file server (118) over a bi-directional air interface (108) and a Wireless Local Area Network (120) by transmitting user requests (123) and receiving content information (124a), receiving control information (124b) from a remote control device (116), and transmitting status information (124c) to the remote control device (116). Furthermore, said device (100) is capable of receiving identification information (126) about the product (122) from a tag device (114) attached to said product (122).

System and method for distributing information via a communication network

A communication system for distributing information via a network to one or more subscribers includes a multi-port switch, one or more radio frequency (RF) modems coupled to respective ports of the switch, a combiner and a transmitter. The switch forwards source information to the RF modems based on address information. Each RF modem modulates and up converts information from the switch to an RF signal within a respective subscriber channel of the television broadcast spectrum. Each channel is assigned to one or more subscribers, and each subscriber is allocated unshared bandwidth. Each channel may be further divided into unshared bandwidth increments, so that multiple subscribers may share a single channel. The combiner combines modulated information from each RF modem into a combined signal and the transmitter transmits the combined signal to the subscribers via the network. An HFC network including a distribution point and one or more optical nodes is contemplated, each optical node serving a particular geographic area via a corresponding coaxial cable. Each subscriber destination includes a gateway device or the like that is tuned to a corresponding channel to retrieve source information from that channel, and to deliver the information to one or more local subscriber devices. The gateway further includes converters, a modulator and an up converter to receive and transmit subscriber information upstream to the distribution point. The gateways and an address resolution server enforce point to point communications. A bandwidth manager allocates bandwidth and monitors bandwidth usage.

System and method for providing at least one service obtained from a service network for a user in a packet switched communication network

The present invention is a network, service network entities, and a method for providing users of a packet switched communication network (32) with access to services obtained from a private service network (34). A method of providing at least one service obtained from a service network for a user in a packet switched communication network originating at an originating network entity in the packet switched communication network a service request which is transmitted to a controlling entity in the service network, the service request triggering at least one service to be provided to the user; the controlling entity formulating a service route comprising at least one service providing server with each service providing server processing the service request on the service route and an allocation of how each service providing server is to provide the at least one service; and transmitting the service request, the allocation and any service instructions along the service route from the controlling entity through each service providing server and then the request for service and the at least one service from a last service providing server or the controlling entity on the service route to the packet switched communication network and thereafter to a network entity in the packet switched communication network.
