Abstract

The method comprises the following steps: 1) taking homogenate of fresh rehmannia root and water, further adding methanol, stirring and then, filtering to obtain filtrate; 2) further extracting filter residue with methanol solution once, merging filtrate obtained by filtering twice and concentrating to obtain viscous liquid; 3) adding ethanol solution into the liquid, stirring and pouring out obtained clear liquid when no precipitate is generated any more; concentrating the obtained clear liquid till no alcohol exists so as to separate out pigment contained in rehmannia root from solution; 4) filtering insoluble, extracting water phase with n-butanol twice, merging n-butanol phase and removing solvent by reduced pressure evaporation to obtain grey white crystals; 5) recrystallizing the crystals with water once to obtain white crystals, namely catalpol.
