The IRI model is an empirical model fitted based on a large number of ground and satellite observations of ionospheric parameters accumulated over a long period of time by the global altimeter network and radar observations. For a given location and time, the IRI model can provide monthly average electron density, electron temperature, ion temperature, etc. within the altitude range from 50 km to 2000 km.
