[0043] Figure 8 is a perspective view of the present disclosure in which an assembled set top box 801 etc. is placed on a release jig 802 . The release clamp may include a plurality of breakaway members 803 that help retain the base of the set top box on the clamp when the top cover of the set top box is lifted. It should be noted that other types of separation members 40, such as Figure 5 The conventional type shown, can be included on the clamp along with the novel components, allowing the designer to use a number of locks to enhance the security of the set top box. In other words, only Figure 8 A small amount of breakaway member 803 in is necessary to keep the base down, and conventional members 40 may be included for unlocking other coupling clips 30 . Ideally, four separation members 803 are used.

Abstract

A method and apparatus for disassembling a set top box is disclosed. The method includes providing the set top box including: a top cover, a base, and cover retention clips, wherein the cover retention clips are V or U shaped for securing the top cover to the base, providing a release fixture including a retention clip release finger, inserting the release fixture into the set top box, disengaging the cover retention clips using the retention clip release finger, and removing the top cover from the base.

Description

Background technique [0001] An electronic device or device such as a set-top box may be an assembled device having a plurality of walls, wherein at least one of the walls may be secured with a plurality of screws. Unfortunately, access to the internal components of these devices requires the removal of multiple screws, which often requires extensive manipulation of the device. Excessive manipulation will usually involve changing the orientation of the device (such as by inverting the device or placing it on each side) to find each screw. Next, the device is disassembled by removing one screw at a time with the device turned upside down or on each side thereof. Manipulating the unit too much increases the chance of damaging the internal components as each movement of the unit shakes the components. Furthermore, removing and re-engaging the screw presents the possibility of scratching the device or stripping the threads. [0002] In view of the fact that access to internal co...
