Embodiment Construction

[0061] as the picture shows, figure 1 An adjustable pin clamp 10 is shown mounted on a table 8 . The adjustable pin clamp 10 has a pair of adjustable hole guide brackets 12 , 14 that are adjustable relative to the base structure 30 of the pin clamp 10 . The hole guide brackets 12 , 14 are adjusted by an adjustment mechanism 16 to position the plurality of hole guides 18 relative to a pair of workpieces 20 , 22 clamped to the adjustable pin clamp 10 .

[0062] In the illustrated embodiment, the bore guide brackets 12, 14 are identical. However, it should be appreciated that in other embodiments they may also take different forms independently of each other. The hole guide 18 is adjustable to multiple positions and has no additional fixed positions as in prior art devices described above. Once the hole guide 18 is positioned at the desired location, the hole punching tool 32 can be used to form the appropriate pin-fit holes 11 in the workpieces 20 , 22 .

Abstract

An adjustable doweling jig is provided. The adjustable doweling jig has a pair of bore guide carriers that are symmetrically and simultaneously adjustable relative to a base structure of the doweling jig. The bore guide carriers carry a plurality of bore guides such that dowel holes can be placed using the bore guides at a broad range of locations, limited only by the size of the jig.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to a tool for woodworking and in particular to a pin clamp for forming pin holes in a workpiece. Background technique [0002] Pin fixtures are used in lumber work to create pin holes in workpieces. A pin clamp has a plurality of hole guides disposed at a fixed distance relative to a reference point of the clamp. The hole guide typically has an opening to allow a hole punching tool, such as a drill bit, to pass through a portion of the pin fixture and drill a pin-fit hole in the workpiece. The holes receive pins for connecting workpieces. Once the pinning holes are drilled, a portion of the pin is inserted into the dowel hole and a portion of the pin is left exposed. The workpiece is then connected to a subsequent workpiece having the same pinning hole produced in a similar process by inserting the exposed portion of the pin into the pinning hole of the next workpiece. The above-mentioned process is generally...
