The kettle body comprises a lid and a heating resistor. The single chip microcomputer comprises a temperature acquisition module, a boiling judging module and a control module. Boiling state of the water in the kettle is judged by the boiling judging module based on the rate of water temperature change. If the water is judged as in the boiling state by the boiling judging module, the lid will be opened by the automatically opening and closing lid mechanism controlled by the control module. After a preset period of time, the electronic switch is turned off and the lid is closed by the automatically opening and closing lid mechanism controlled by the control module. The invention proposes an effective method to judge the boiling state of water in an electric kettle. And by use of the automatically opening and closing lid mechanism, the lid is opened automatically after boiling and the water is kept heated for a preset period of time and then the lid is closed automatically.
