The defoliating agent is prepared by mixing the following components by weight: 40 to 50 parts of ethephon, 6 to 8 parts of magnesium chlorate, 20 to 40 parts of hydroxyquinoline, 1 to 3 parts of a pesticide synergist, 2 to 4 parts of chlorate and 10 to 20 parts of water. The defoliating agent provided by the invention has the characteristics of a small particle size, a large active surface, great penetration force, no rising of dust during agent dispensing, low cost, high effect, cold-proof and anti-freezing performance, etc. The defoliating agent has advantages of both wettable powder and missible oil, can be wetted by water, has good suspensibility when diluted by water and can be directly made into spray liquid for usage. The defoliating agent can effectively prevent unfavorable-delayed senescence, promote blow-of-cotton of cotton bolls, increase the proportion of flowers before frost, boost yield and raise the grade of cotton, and is an ideal drug for mechanical harvesting and rapid manual harvesting.
