A method and apparatus for determining a measurement period in a wireless communication system are provided. The user equipment (UE) sets the start of the measurement period to one of the start of the period for the broadcast / multicast control channel or the start of the scheduling period for the broadcast / multicast channel, which is the multicast control channel (MCCH) modification period , MCCH repetition period, broadcast control channel (BCCH) modification period, or one of multicast channel (MCH) scheduling period (MSP).
