Abstract

The invention discloses a media segment push method, a server and a client. The method comprises the steps that the server receives a segment request message sent by the client, wherein the segment request message comprises request segment identities and a push directive, and the push directive is used for indicating segments requested to be pushed by the client; the server determines pushable segments and pending push segments according to the segments requested to be pushed by the client; and the server sends a push promise corresponding to each segment in the pushable segments, the segmentscorresponding to the request segment identities and pending push indication information to the client, wherein the pending push indication information is used for indicating the client to wait for receiving the push promises of the to-be-pushed segments. Through adoption of the method provided by the invention, the playing delay of the client can be reduced.
