Problems solved by technology

However, in many cases, especially in developing countries, the administration of vaccines occurs outside of hospitals and may be provided by laypersons, allowing injections to patients without careful control over access to syringes
Use of reusable syringes in these situations increases the risk of infection and transmission of blood-borne diseases, especially when subsequent injections are performed using a syringe that has been previously used and is no longer sterile

Embodiment Construction

[0031] The present invention provides a single-use delivery device capable of delivering agents (eg, vaccines, drugs, medicaments, etc.) in a controlled manner without requiring specialized skill to perform the delivery of such agents. The delivery device is configured to be equipped with different types of delivery means for generating spray or droplets etc. including but not limited to needles, nozzles. The delivery device is configured such that it cannot be reused after its intended use to deliver a fluid agent to a patient, thereby preventing the device from being reused and reducing the risk of spreading blood-borne disease through reuse.

[0032] In general, the present invention provides a disposable delivery device comprising a delivery member for delivering a fluid agent to a patient and a base member for providing the fluid agent to the delivery member. The base member includes a proximal end having an inlet port configured to receive the fluid reagent from a source...

Abstract

The invention is a single use delivery device capable of delivery of an agent (e.g., vaccine, drug, medicament, etc.) in a controlled manner and without requiring specialized skill in administering delivery of such agent. The delivery device is configured to be filled on-site and in the field with a dose of an agent, while remaining sterile and preventing the potential for contamination during thefilling process. The delivery device is configured to be fitted with various types of administering components, including, but not limited to, needles, nozzles for producing spray or droplets, and the like. The delivery device is further configured to be rendered incapable of reuse followings its intended use of delivering the fluid agent to a patient, thereby preventing reuse of the device and reducing the risk of the spreading blood-borne diseases through reuse.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of and priority to US Provisional Application No. 62 / 188,114, filed July 2, 2015, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to delivery devices for delivering substances such as medicaments, and more particularly to a single-use delivery device that renders it unusable after its intended use to deliver a fluid agent to a patient. Background technique [0004] Millions of people are infected and die every year from a variety of diseases, some of which are curable or entirely preventable. For example, many diseases can be prevented through an immunization program that includes the administration of vaccines. While vaccinations have led to significant reductions in the number of cases of several infectious diseases, some of these diseases are still quite common. In many cases, a large...
