An object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal composition having a negative dielectric anisotropy (delta epsilon), a high TNI, a large delta n, a small gamma 1, a large K33, and a small gamma 1 / K33. Further, there is provided a VA type or FFS type or IPS type liquid crystal display elementwhich has a fast response speed, has a high VHR, and has little or no display failure using the liquid crystal composition.
